Gov. Sununu, NHLS Founding Member Novo Nordisk Celebrate Recent Workforce Expansion & Investments in West Lebanon

This August, NHLS founding member Novo Nordisk welcomed New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu on a tour of their Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) manufacturing site in West Lebanon to learn more about the company’s workforce expansion at the site that produces medicines for patients around the world with chronic disease. To meet growing patient demand for Novo Nordisk’s rare disease medicines, the company since 2021 has doubled its workforce in West Lebanon to 400 employees, creating significant life science jobs for the region.

During the tour, Novo Nordisk Corporate VP Peter Gariepy emphasized the power of the local community in ensuring patient access to life-changing medicines. “At Novo Nordisk, we are proud of our state-of-the-art facilities,” Gariepy said. “But more importantly, we are exceptionally proud of our employees and our incredible partnerships with our community of neighbors, businesses and organizations that enable us to produce life-changing medicines for people living with chronic diseases. We are grateful to have the opportunity to speak with Governor Sununu on the critical work taking place right here in West Lebanon to serve patients across the globe.”

Since 2014, New Hampshire has been home to Novo Nordisk’s facilities that produce the active pharmaceutical ingredients to treat patients living with rare blood and endocrine disorders. The New Hampshire site is a key part of a global network of Product Supply sites producing life-sustaining medications for millions of patients worldwide. Between sites in New Hampshire and North Carolina, Novo Nordisk employs nearly 3000 manufacturing professionals.

Committed to improving both the lives of people and our planet, Novo Nordisk is also at the forefront of sustainability, targeting zero CO2 emissions from operations and transport by 2030. Across the globe, Novo Nordisk’s production sites are running on renewable power and, in New Hampshire, the site strives to reduce environmental impacts through waste reduction initiatives, and by prioritizing water and energy conservation.

Novo Nordisk’s presence in New Hampshire has also had positive effects on the local community. Novo Nordisk has donated to several local organizations in support of health and wellness, STEM educational opportunities, and family activities. They’ve also supported the Mascoma River Greenway project with a $75,000 corporate donation that helped to extend New Hampshire’s Northern Rail Trail.

After announcing Novo Nordisk as an NHLS founding member in January of 2024, the company continues to inspire us as a champion for the life sciences community in New Hampshire. Their contributions to the region’s economic development, including expanding the local workforce and creating new jobs for Granite Staters, is helping forge an exciting new chapter for New Hampshire’s economic landscape.
